MINUTES

Minutes of the Section Meeting in Siena, September 2nd, 2005 - 13:00-13:30

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

I was happy to welcome 13 participants at the section meeting. There were some new faces and this may already be an effect of our efforts to get more members interested in our section. Thank you for coming.
I shortly reported on why we changed the time of our section meeting and we agreed to prevent  overlaps with the other section meetings in the future. There were no comments or questions on the minutes of the last meeting in Stockholm.

EMEA – report by Heike Rabe
Heike Rabe reported on her activity in the European Medicines Agency (EMEA) and on the new European Union legislation “Better Medicines in Children”. The EMEA can be found at the website www.emea.eu.int and the website for the European Forum for Good Clinical Practice is www.efgcp.org

Change of section constitution: 3 council members
The constitution of our section has been changed. The section has now – in accordance with the other sections of the ESPR – three council members. One of the council members is the secretary. The secretary represents the section in the council of the ESPR and is a council member of the ESPR. Before, the section of microcirculation, haematology and oxygen transport only had one council member who was also the representative of the section in the ESPR council.
Just for information: The ESN, the by far biggest section of the ESPR, has six council members, three of them being present in the council of the ESPR.
All participants of the section meeting voted for the change of the constitution.

Election of 2 more council members
Heike Rabe was elected council member of the section. She has been secretary of the section until last year and is willing to be council member for one year from now. This will help us to keep continuity.
Martin Wolf from Zürich was elected council member of the section for three years.

Discussion on more activities – larger group
We discussed on how we could get more ESPR members and visitors of the ESPR meetings interested in our field and how to bring people who are working in the field into contact to our group. We thought that one important point would be to present the section on the homepage of the ESPR. We agreed that we should also extend the scope of our section to related subjects in the field. Especially people working in the field of oxygen transport, oxygen requirement, oxygen saturation targets etc should be addressed.

Future postgraduate courses
Next meeting will be in Barcelona in October 2006. As this is a joint meeting of three societies (ESPA, CEPS and ESPNIC) time will be limited for contribution of the different sections of the ESPR. We therefore plan to have a postgraduate course organized by our section in 2007, when the ESPR meeting will probably be held in Prag in September. We discussed on topics for postgraduate courses and decided to collect topics and ideas by email.

Any other business
We discussed that it would be nice to know something more about each other’s  research activities. This would help to get into closer contact and to coordinate projects. We proposed that each member of the section sends a short description of his interests and work to me and that I will put it together and make it assessable for each member.

Yours sincerely

Claudia Roll
Secretary of ESPR/Microcirculation
