Young Investigators

The Young Investigators Exchange Programme in paediatrics is funded by the International Pediatric Research Foundation (IPRF) and promotes and supports basic and clinical research directed to the causes, prevention, and treatment of disease in children.

The programme aims to encourage young investigators to share a short (up to 12 months) research experience in a foreign research institution. It also aims to afford research groups the opportunity to share expertise in methodology and encourages international exchange and partnership in paediatric research.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be actively involved or about to be actively involved in some aspect of research related to diseases in children.

The hosting institution must be in a different country than the applicant’s current position and needs to be affiliated with either SPR or ESPR. Exchange can occur in Europe or between institutions in Europe and the U.S.

Application Procedure

Applicants should send:

  • Their curriculum vitae and a brief letter explaining why and how the research experience in the chosen institution will complement their research activity in the home institution.
  • A letter from the Department Chair stating that the investigator is supported by the home institution, that support funds are available, and that the applicant will receive time off to complete the experience.
  • Written assurance from the host institution that the candidate will have a named supervisor during exchange (use Laboratory application form).
  • 2-4 page summary of the research project specifying the part to be completed in foreign institution with detailed budget outlining travel costs, housing and other expenses.

A 4-member scientific review board will administer the program. Fellowship applications to be sent preferably electronically by
October 1. Fellowships of up to $20,000 will be awarded once a year.

Fellowship recipients to submit written report to the Program Committee within six months of their return. The fellowship support should acknowledge any scientific contribution resulting from it.
